PROJECT REVIEW
Play Tenis is a tennis academy in Lima, Peru, that offers group classes for children and adults. Students reserve their monthly class schedule at their respective location.

Problem

Currently, students must reserve their monthly schedule via WhatsApp, which results in being heavy.

The goal

Create a booking module on the academy's website. This is expected to improve the conversion metrics for returning students and redirect the team's activities towards attracting new clients.

My role

I was in charge of the entire process of creating this solution like UX Design Consultant.

Methodology

For the project, I used the User Centered Design (UCD) methodology.
Understanding the user
In this UX project, the research focused on three key aspects. I conducted interviews with the staff responsible for admissions at the academy, gathering insights into internal processes. Additionally, I conducted in-depth interviews with recurring students, identifying their needs and expectations. I also carried out a competitive analysis to contextualize and enhance our approach. Usability testing rounds were also conducted, which will be explained later.
Interviews
The interviews were conducted with 6 participants. Recruitment was provided by the client. We aimed for diversity in gender, age, gaming level, and how long they had been students.

Competitive audit

We chose 2 cases that are direct competitors because they operate in the same area, and one case from an academy that is not a competitor but has a higher level of development, thus serving as a reference. None of them had a similar virtual service to what is proposed in this project.

Findings of the research

Waiting for the response from the person in charge is an unnecessary waste of time • Users want to have information about registered individuals, the assigned instructor, among other details of the session they desire to make an informed decision • Changing schedules or making up for classes is a common process, but it tends to be challenging.

Simple navigation path from the homepage to task completion.
User flow
Task : reserve your monthly schedule in a easy and effective way.
The design
Generating sketches that lead the idea towards a flow of screens.
Wifeframes
Minimalist interfaces and linear navigation were proposed to provide a quick and easy process.
Usability study: findings
I conducted two rounds of usability studies. The findings of the first study revealed confusing points of navigation and missing information. The second study revealed usability aspects to improve in the interface components.
The usability study allowed us to improve the organization of the most important part of the app, which is the selection of schedules. The shifts were organized into categories and information was added to the items in the list and the spacing was increased for more comfortable navigation.
Identified that users should not register using their social media accounts due to the need for prior registration within an administrative environment.
Prototype
The final prototype presents a fluid and simple navigation to be able to reserve a time and pay the monthly fee from the website.
UI Kit
For the interface, I used the Material Design library as a base. This ensures consistency and accessibility in my design
Takeaways
The implementation of the app will make life simpler for both the student and the academy. No more difficult coordination.
What I learn
I learned that it's essential to thoroughly understand the process before designing. Similarly, identifying the key points in interfaces that either facilitate or, on the contrary, complicate the user.
Next Steps
Designing the administrative section to manage students and schedules.
Coordinating with the development team for coding.
Launching the application and monitoring interactions.
